IPRE organized an advocacy visit to Chișinău for a group of experts from think-tanks and academia based in EU, United States of America, and Ukraine
Between June 25–28, 2025, the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE) organized an advocacy visit to Chișinău for a group of experts from think-tanks and academia based in the European Union, the United States of America, and Ukraine.
During the visit, representatives from the German Council on Foreign Relations (Berlin), the Centre for International Affairs (Barcelona), the Experts for Security and Global Affairs Association (Bucharest), Center for Political Research, Science Po (Paris), Centre for Eastern Studies (Warsaw), Centre for Eastern European Studies (Stockholm), Advocacy Network for National Interests (Kyiv), Clingendael Institute (Hague), Association for International Affairs (Prague), Loughborough University (London), and Collegium Civitas (Warsaw) participated in the European Think-Tank Conference titled ”Safeguarding democracy and advancing EU Enlargement: Deepening European Integration in a Shifting Geopolitical Landscape”.
The event brought together over 100 officials, representatives of public authorities, think-tanks, civil society, and academia from EU, United States of America, Moldova, Ukraine, and Western Balkans. During the conference, workshops and discussion sessions were held on securing electoral processes ahead of the 2025 parliamentary elections, as well as on the prospects for advancing the EU enlargement process.
In addition, during the visit, international experts held a series of meetings with high-level officials, representatives of public institutions, and members of the Parliament of Moldova. Their interlocutors included the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Doina Gherman, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defense, Sergiu Plop, and Head of Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Cerevate.
At the same time, experts held discussions with representatives of political blocs and opposition parties, including: Iurie Munteanu and Gaik Vartanian from the “Alternativa” Bloc, Dinu Plîngău from the “Împreună” Bloc, and Radu Burduja from the “Mișscarea Respect Moldova” Party. The discussions focused on key developments and reforms related to Moldova’s EU accession process and preparations for this autumn’s parliamentary elections, particularly efforts to combat foreign interference in the Moldovan electoral process.
The advocacy visit was organized by IPRE, with the support of the European Union and German Marshall Fund al SUA – Transatlantic Foundation (GMF-TF), within the project “Advancing Moldova’s EU accession efforts through advocacy efforts”.
