#CAPACITY4EU Training Program: Strengthening Civil Society’s Capacities for Effective Participation in EU Accession Negotiations

23 October 2024

The Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), in collaboration with the Institute for Strategic Initiatives (IPIS) and the Berlin-based Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP), launched a training program on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, addressing key topics for the EU negotiation process.

This program aims to strengthen the capacities of civil society in the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova, equipping them with the necessary tools to understand and monitor Moldova’s EU accession negotiations. During the first module, participants received updated information on the negotiation process and discussed civil society’s role in promoting governmental transparency and accountability.

The first module featured three interactive sessions, providing an overview of Moldova’s current EU accession status, the new EU enlargement methodology, and mechanisms for democratic accountability within the negotiation process. The sessions were facilitated by Adrian Ermurachi, Executive Co-Director of IPRE, and Vladimir Medjak, an expert in European policies and EU enlargement, who shared insights on the role of civil society and the institutions involved in the European integration process.

Two additional online modules will follow, focusing on topics such as empowering civil society during the bilateral screening phase, EU support for the accession process, the EU’s communication strategy, and key priorities and challenges in the negotiation process.

The #CAPACITY4EU – Civil Society for EU Accession project is a collaborative effort implemented by the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, the Institut für Europäische Politik, and the Institute for Strategic Initiatives. The project is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office under its civil society cooperation program.
