26 March 2024

The Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), in partnership with the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), organized, on February 22-23, 2024, a workshop within the #Justice4Moldova project.

The aim of the event was to provide training and support for journalist and legal professionals on independent investigations of high-level corruption and integrity checks of justice actors

Victor Calac, lawyer: “The involvement in the workshop was arch-useful for me. Especially from the perspective of information shared by international experts, who have extensive and good experience in conducting such exercises.”

During the workshop, participants benefited from personalized training, focused on essential techniques, methods and tools in conducting integrity checks in the justice sector.

International experts, brought into discussion topics such as the integrity verification process, the analysis of financial flows and the efficient use of information and search tools.

Marcela Zamosteanu, journalist: “For me it was very interesting this way of calculating the income and expenses of judges, because there are certain aspects to which I did not draw attention until now, and now it will be much clearer in the elaboration of documentation and investigations.”

Through interactive presentations, discussions and group work, participants had the opportunity to directly apply the knowledge gained in practice.

Victor Calac, lawyer: “I believe that cohesion between journalists and vetting investigators is very important from the perspective of the fact that journalists can sometimes have access to more secrets. But lawyers can put these secrets well on paper, through the prism of the law.”

Marcela Zamosteanu, journalist: “Certainly, we at RISE asses judges and prosecutors before the vetting process begins. Therefore, this information will be very useful in the investigations we will develop.”

In the end, all those present at the workshop received certificates of participation. All training tools wereintegrated into a Workshop toolkit, providing valuable resources and guidance for those involved in the fight against corruption. The toolkit is available in Romanian and English on IPRE web-page.
