WE and EU Awareness workshop: 40 young people from Ungheni rayon gathered to discuss and learn more about opportunities offered by the Association Agreement

The Institut für Europäische Politik based in Berlin (IEP), in partnership with the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE) and the Institute for Strategic Initiatives (IPIS) organized on December 12 the second EU awareness workshop in the framework of the project “EU Perceptions and Reality in Moldova (WE and EU)”.

The purpose of the workshop was to facilitate the transfer of factual knowledge on the EU Association Agreement and to inform on EU funding and application opportunities. Also, the workshop participants had the opportunity to interact and discuss the process of implementing donor-funded projects with past and actual beneficiaries of EU funds. The event was attended by young people from Ungheni rayon, including representatives of different ethnic groups.

Opening remarks were made by Iulian Groza, Executive Director at IPRE, Inna Supac, Executive Director at IPIS and Tatiana Lazar, Deputy President of the Ungheni Rayon. Also, Viktoria Palm, Project Coordinator at IEP, led a brainstorming activity and explained to the participants what are the goals and activities of the project.

In the first part of the workshop the participants were divided into four groups. Project experts were assigned to each of the four tables, who discussed for 20 minutes one of the following topics: The Association Agreement between Republic of Moldova and the European Union (Iulian Groza, Executive Director IPRE); The achievements of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (Iulian Rusu, Deputy director IPRE); The tangible benefits for Moldovan citizens after signing the Association Agreement (Inna Supac, Executive Director IPIS and Mihai Mogildea, Project expert IPRE); Erasmus + Program in Moldova (Claudia Melinte, Coordinator of the Erasmus + Program in Moldova and Ana Samson, Communications Assistant). The dialogue was organized in a rotation format, allowing participants to discuss all four topics.

In the second part of the event, young people participated in an informative workshop presented by Elena-Alina Doroftei, Poltical Officer at EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, who spoke about EU support to Moldova and EU funding opportunities for Moldovan ciitzens.

The workshop also featured one the success stories filmed within the framework of the project. The video presented Mihai Chitaica, the owner of the canoeing club in Varnita, who recently with EU support was able to buy an engine for his boat to ensure the safety of children who train. The project “EU in Moldova: Perceptions and Reality (WE and EU)” was launched in July 2019 and will last 12 months and aims to make a substantial contribution to overcoming the social dividing lines of the EU rapprochement process in Moldova by promoting informed intra-societal dialogue on the values and norms underlying the Association Agreement and the concrete benefits of modernising Moldova in the course of the EU rapprochement process.

The future activities include citizen’s dialogues, workshops and TV debates in regions such as Edineț and Leova. The project is implemented with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt).
